Biographies
Susie Cour-Palais – Director
Susie has over 20 years' experience in life and health underwriting both in the UK and abroad, originally with Swiss Re in Cape Town, Zurich and London. Her roles have included risk manager for Asia-Pacific and medical research manager in the UK.
From 1998 she ran her own underwriting consulting firm advising companies in the UK, North America and Asia on risk selection strategy, market practice and underwriting re-engineering. Then in 2003 she teamed up with Peter Maynard to form SelectX.
Susie has a particular interest in the effects of technology and new distribution on underwriting, and brings a strong global perspective to the issues faced by the industry. In 2007 she obtained a degree in law.
Peter Maynard – Director
Peter is the other founding director of SelectX. He is a highly experienced risk appraisal expert and marketer, with over 30 years in the business. At M&G Re he had extensive involvement with underwriting research, working closely with Dr RDC Brackenridge and the firm’s other medical officers, and was the architect of many aspects of underwriting policy.
He held a number of research and marketing roles covering product development, market research and strategic planning, and was Head of Research at Swiss Re Life & Health when he left in 1999 to set up his own strategic marketing and research consultancy.
Peter joined Susie to form SelectX in 2003.
Gary Bundock – Director
Gary joined SelectX as a director in 2008. He has more than 20 years’ experience in life and health underwriting at insurers and at Swiss Re which he joined in 1996. He managed underwriting teams in both settings
Latterly at Swiss Re he was a senior member of its global technical unit, and between 1999 and 2006 was the overall project manager for LifeGuide, Swiss Re’s online underwriting manual, being closely involved in setting and implementing its global strategy. He also managed Swiss Re’s evidence-based ratings programme.
Gary became a consultant in 2006, since when he has undertaken a variety of projects including four underwriting manuals.
